Fashion is more than what you wear.
The Root Project is an international initiative of Black Cat FOREVER created to connect people, communities, Fashion, Arts and culture across Africa and the world.
At its heart, the concept is simple:
We select individuals from a specific African or international community to become part of the Black Cat FOREVER International Collective.
These individuals are people with an interest in Fashion, Arts, creativity, culture and self-expression. They may be models, artists, photographers, designers, creatives, students, entrepreneurs or simply individuals who believe in the power of their community and want to represent it.
Many of the communities we seek to connect with are underserved and may not traditionally receive international exposure.
The Root Project is about changing that.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A ROOT?
Being a Root signifies joining a greater purpose beyond oneself. Chosen individuals become part of the Black Cat FOREVER International Collective, showcasing the brand as a tangible symbol of: RESPECT. SOLIDARITY. CREATIVITY. COMMUNITY. SUPPORT FOR THE ARTS. A GLOBAL COLLECTIVE
The aim is not to create celebrities, but to foster visibility. The Root Project transcends clothing; Black Cat FOREVER believes fashion can spotlight important stories and forge connections between African and global creative communities. Participants gain exposure through social media promotion, and professional photography.
Editorial Exposure
Selected participants have the opportunity to be featured in quarterly editorial coverage through nHaus Magazine, an American Fashion publication produced by the Southern Virginia Fashion Council (SVAFC) as part of a collective linking African communities with fashion and arts worldwide.

EVERYONE HAS A ROLE IN THE ROOTS
​The Root Project isn’t designed to benefit only the people wearing the clothing.
We believe the entire creative community should have an opportunity to benefit from the exposure.
THE PARTICIPANTS
The ten selected individuals become representatives of the Black Cat FOREVER International Collective within their community.
They receive opportunities for exposure while helping bring international attention to the community they represent.
THE PHOTOGRAPHERS
The photographers who document each Root Project become part of the story.
Their work will be credited and promoted through Black Cat FOREVER’s social media and editorial platforms, creating opportunities for their photography to reach audiences beyond their local community.
THE MANUFACTURERS & CREATIVES
The people and businesses responsible for producing Root Project merchandise are also part of the collective story.
Where applicable, T-shirt manufacturers, printers, designers, artisans and other creative businesses participating in the project can receive promotional exposure through the project’s editorial and social media platforms.
THE COMMUNITY
And ultimately, everything comes back to the community.
The people.
The creativity.
The culture.
The businesses.
The Arts.

The Root Project envisions expanding beyond current communities. Black Cat FOREVER aims to build the International Collective across Africa connecting one community individuals at a time in countries like Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, and more.
